Innovating Mine Site Rehabilitation

Since August 2023, AirSeed by grovia has been leading an experimental rehabilitation project at Anglo American's Lake Lindsay site. The initiative focuses on identifying key factors influencing seeding success and implementing targeted interventions to improve ecological outcomes on post-mining land.

Targeted Interventions for Challenging Conditions

To address the unique challenges of the site, the project incorporates:

• Herbicide application to tackle significant competition from exotic grasses.
• Ferrous sulphate integration in seed pods to counteract alkaline soil conditions.
• Mulching to boost the soil's organic carbon content and improve its overall quality.

Delivering Results Through Innovation

AirSeed by grovia successfully applied aerial herbicide spraying across 8 hectares and conducted pod seeding over 6 hectares. The herbicide treatment began showing visible results within days, with the existing ground cover fully eliminated within weeks. This milestone sets the stage for the establishment of native vegetation and long-term ecosystem recovery.
