Partnering for Post-Fire Restoration

In response to the extensive damage caused by the Black Summer bushfires, Greening Australia has identified the need for innovative strategies to restore Alpine Ash communities. While traditional direct and aerial seeding methods are effective for canopy species, they are less suitable for understorey vegetation. Recognizing this challenge, Greening Australia has partnered with AirSeed by grovia to explore the potential of AirSeed by grovia’s Seed Pods as a versatile and effective alternative for comprehensive ecosystem restoration.

Developing a Proof of Concept

The project aims to develop a proof of concept for using AirSeed by grovia’s Seed Pod delivery mechanisms to restore fire-affected Alpine Ash landscapes by 2024. Key elements of the trial include:

• Bench trials in AirSeed by grovia’s greenhouse to optimize pod design and germination rates.
• Field trials of deployed Seed Pods to assess their performance in real-world conditions.
• Spot spraying technology trials to complement pod delivery and enhance restoration outcomes.

Restoring a Full Suite of Species

The initiative seeks to reintroduce a full spectrum of species, from canopy to understorey plants, ensuring the recovery of biodiversity and ecological processes in fire-disturbed landscapes.
